New face in store for Dundee

27/07/2007

Morrisons, which opens in Dundee in October, has named the new store's general manager as Alan Johnstone.

Alan brings a wealth of retail knowledge to the new Dundee store, obtained over his extensive retail career. His career with Morrisons originated in Safeway 20 years ago as a fresh 16 year old. He has since held a variety of roles throughout the past two decades, including produce manager and deputy general manager. Alan has been store general manager in three stores throughout Scotland.

Alan is looking forward to opening day and believes that he is more than ready for the busy and challenging role ahead of him, but there is a lot of work to be done before the store doors are even opened. From checking that 25,000 own label and branded products are neatly stacked on the shelves, to ensuring that all new members of staff are fully trained, Alan and his management team will be working extremely hard to add the finishing touches over the coming months.

Alan comments, "I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up this position and offering shoppers in Dundee an excellent supermarket and superb product range in a great location."

"Whether shopping in our Market Street fresh food counters, or visiting our customer café and award winning wines and spirits department, our customers can always expect a friendly, personal service, Morrisons style," he added.

Originally from Glenrothes, 36 year old Alan has been married for five years and has two sons. An avid golfer and squash player, Alan believes that the fast paced interaction with the customers, and the many opportunities that the job entails, presents him with great job satisfaction.
