28/09/2007

Morrisons triumphed at this year's Retail Industry Awards, collecting the prestigious Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year, Training Initiative of the Year and Store Manager of the Year awards. The Retail Industry Awards are recognised as the premier awards event of the year. They celebrate all that is best in the grocery sector and have become established as the ‘Oscars’ of the industry, with an expert panel of judges and a ceremony held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.

Fresh Flower Retailer of the Year

Morrisons were praised for their expansive collection, which comprises a choice of up to 32 different bouquets in any one week, with price points starting from 99p. “Morrisons is doing a really good job for its customers”, said the judges from the Flower Council of Holland, who were impressed with Morrisons premium products such as the Fairtrade rose and hand-tied bouquets, plus their “simple but effective” displays.

They felt that Morrisons had really excelled through their “innovative approach”, including the introduction of a Mediterranean range, which includes olive trees and grape vines. The judges also noted Morrisons plans in the pipeline, such as the introduction of hand-tied flowers packaged in large carry home vases, and stylish fashion bouquets for 18-35 year olds.

Joe Appleyard, Senior Buyer for Fresh Flowers at Morrisons said, “I am delighted that we have won Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year. We are committed to providing our customers with the freshest possible flowers and our outstanding selection of blooms makes us second to none. This award is recognition of all the hard work we have put in over the last twelve months, and I would like to thank everyone in the team who has helped make this possible.”

Training Initiative of the Year
