Supermarket wins Multiple Retailer of the Year Award at the prestigious Re:fresh Awards – judged to have achieved most in the fresh produce category in the last 12 months
Voted for by the industry, Morrisons triumphed at last night’s Re:fresh Awards, collecting the prestigious Multiple Retailer of the Year accolade. The Re:fresh Awards are recognised as the premier produce industry awards event of the year, celebrating all that is best in the UK fresh produce sector.
The award acknowledged Morrisons achievements over the last 12 months with regard to their strong and long running relationships with British producers and the fact that care is taken to source local and seasonal produce wherever possible.
Michael Velasco, President of the Fresh Produce Consortium and member of the Re:fresh judging panel said, “We are pleased to crown Morrisons the Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year 2008. Their drive and dedication to supplying customers with highest quality product has out-shone the competition and sourcing seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables is clearly high on their agenda. The retailer has undergone a lot of change in the past few years but is now out-performing the market place and demonstrating an exciting range of fresh products.”
“We are extremely proud of winning this award. We are pleased that our Produce Departments have received recognition for their hard work and commitment to bringing our customers the very best in quality fresh produce”, said Chris Walker, Morrisons Fresh Foods Director.
Morrisons are the only retailer with their own fresh produce packing distribution centres, and can therefore ensure that 70% of the fresh produce they sell comes directly from the fields into one of their six produce sites across the UK.
