Many challenges face new registrants and our programme is aimed at helping you meet these challenges with confidence. Our well tested pre-registration programme, which lasts 52 weeks, will help you make the transition from being a successful pharmacy graduate to becoming a responsible practicing pharmacist.
Your tutor – an experienced community pharmacist – will guide and instruct you in the competencies required by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
You will also be given full training for all in-store pharmacy operations and cover a range of courses including:
- Professional services and general pharmacy operational procedures
- Guidance, feedback, reviews and assessments from your tutor
- Gaining hands-on experience in your training Pharmacy department
- Collating a portfolio of good evidence relating to performance standards
- Attending various courses covering key clinical, professional and law and ethics topics, and first aid training
- Foundation training on management and commercial skills
- Completing a practice-based project
- Completing a cross sector placement where possible.
- Self-directed study
- Facilitating the skills and discipline of life-long learning
Our programme is designed to help you achieve the following key skills:
personal effectiveness, consultation skills, professional judgement, collaborative/ team working, risk management, change management, implementing new services, supporting self care and those with long term conditions, promoting health and facilitating safe and effective medicine taking.
The deadline for completed applications for the 2009/2010 programme has now passed. Details on how to apply for future pre-registration programmes will be advertised nearer the time.
We are participating in the new PRPS programme in Scotland, therefore we are unable to provide dates for the application process for this region as we await further information from the NES. This will be updated once we have it.
