How GDAs can be used
On the front of packs you'll find the blue panel shown. Here you'll see the amounts of calories, fat, satuated fat, sugar and salt in a portion of food, together with percentages which tell you how much food this contributes towards your Guideline Daily Amounts.
For example, the panel above tells you a serving of this food provides 6.5g of fat per serving, and it is 9.3% of your Guildline Daily Amount (GDA) for fat.
So all you have to do is have a quick look and decide which foods to go for. You can use the GDA panel to decide which foods, meals and snacks you and your family can go for to try to eat a healthy balanced diet across the day or week.
Foods that are for children will display the Guideline Daily Amounts for children.
Top tips
- Use the GDAs to help you balance your calorie intake from meals and snacks you eat throughout the day, whilst taking into account the activity you do that burns calories.
- Use the GDAs to help you balance the fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt content in your meals and snacks across the day. If you want to keep within your maximum GDA’s check the GDAs label to compare products. Also think about choosing foods which contain lower amounts of salt, fats and sugar so that you don’t go over your Guideline Daily Amounts.
- Use the GDAs in combination with eating a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle to keep you and your family in good health.
