Franz Baconburger

A seasoned campaigner on the world scene, this tasty burger will hit the spot at any barbecue.

Ingredients

  • 500g minced beef
  • 4 spring onions, trimmed and shredded
  • 70g breadcrumbs
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 4 rashers back bacon

To serve:

  • 4 burger buns/rolls
  • 1 gem lettuce
  • 1 beef steak tomato, sliced

Method

  1. Place the mince in a mixing bowl with the shredded spring onions and breadcrumbs, season and mix well.
  2.  Beat together the egg and mustard and blend into the mince mixture. Divide the mixture into 4 and shape into burgers.
  3. Cook under a medium grill for 7 to 8 minutes per side or until cooked through with no pink meat remaining. Alternatively, cook on a hot BBQ.
  4. Near the end of the burgers’cooking time, add the bacon to the grill tray and grill until cooked through.
  5. To serve, split the burger buns and fill with a little lettuce, a cooked burger, a slice of tomato and a rasher of cooked bacon.

Cooks Tip: You can use pastry cutters to shape your burgers. Press the meat into it firmly then lift the cutter away – leaving the “perfect burger”.
