Mud oranges

A mini Halloween pumpkin filled with chocolate delight

Ingredients

  • 8 oranges
  • 2 packets orange jelly
  • 2 x 500g pots Greek-style yogurt
  • 300g milk chocolate
  • 25g plain chocolate, grated (optional, for hair)

Method

  1. Cut the tops off each orange and, using a teaspoon, scoop out the centre so you are left with hollow orange shells. Do this over a bowl as they will be very juicy. Turn them upside down onto a double layer of kitchen paper and allow to drain thoroughly. Once drained, if you wish, carefully cut out eyes, nose and a mouth using a small sharp knife.
  2. Pass the orange pulp through a sieve, reserving the juice. Make the juice up to 300ml with water, then place in a pan with the jelly cubes. Heat until the jelly melts, then remove from the heat and whisk in the yogurt.
  3. Break the chocolate into small squares and melt in a bowl over a pan of simmering water until smooth. Beat into the orange yogurt mixture, then chill for 2 hours.
  4. Remove from the fridge and beat with electric beaters for 1 minute. Pile into the hollowed-out orange shells, topping with grated plain chocolate for hair if desired, and return to the fridge until ready to serve.
