With their nutty sweetness, Jersey Royal potatoes are hard to beat. True Jersey Royals must be cultivated, grown and harvested on the island to earn their name. Jersey farmers like Robert Perchard grow the potatoes in incredibly steep, south facing slopes called cotils. The potatoes are then picked by hand and delivered to Morrisons as quickly as possible.
“We’ve been supplying Morrisons with Jersey Royals for over ten years now and we have a very good working relationship with them.”
Regal potatoes
The Perchard family have been involved in the farming of Jersey Royal potatoes for over a hundred years. The cotils, where they plant their crops, were created by Robert’s great grandfather in the early 1900s and have been handed down the generations. This gives Robert quite a bit of experience when it comes to growing sweet and delicious potatoes. The farming methods he uses are very traditional too, with special winches used to plough the steep cotils.
