We get helpful tips from the Fresh to go section of Market Street.
How long can I keep a take-away sandwich in the fridge?
If it’s unopened or tightly wrapped in clingfilm one of our freshly prepared sarnies should last at least a couple of days in the fridge.
Can you suggest a healthy alternative to mayonnaise?
If you’re looking to get more moisture into your sandwich, houmous is a great alternative – with a subtle taste that goes especially well with salad. Or you can try tzatziki, which has a similar creamy texture. It’s made with cucumber and natural yoghurt, making it healthy with a crisp, distinctive taste.
Does mustard go well with turkey in a sandwich?
Absolutely – in fact, most poultry goes well with sweeter, less harsh mustards such as French or German. But English mustard can be just as satisfying with turkey, especially if you pop in a nice slice of ham to complement it.
Can you suggest a protein substitute for my veggie sandwiches?
Cheese is a great source of protein, if you can eat it. There’s a wide range of vegetarian cheeses available in-store too, and some suitable for vegans too. And avocados are a great, totally natural food that helps our bodies build the highest quality proteins.
Are noodles a good source of slow-release carbohydrates?
Yes. Just like pasta, noodles are a great source of energy that slowly gets released into your body, keeping you going and making sure you don’t feel like snacking too much. For instance, our oriental noodle salads are well balanced dishes with plenty of vegetables and protein as well as plenty of carbohydrates to keep your energy levels up.
Can you reheat a slice of quiche once you get it home?
Whenever you reheat food, the thing to do is make sure you heat it through thoroughly. You need it to be piping hot (and we mean piping hot!). Most quiches contain eggs and some contain meat – so you can only reheat it once. All our quiches are ready to eat, though. So, if you’re in any doubt, have it cold with a nice side salad.
Which has less saturated fat – butter or margarine?
While margarine and butter contain similar quantities of fat, butter can contain up to three times as much saturated fat (the stuff that’s not so good for you). But, like everything we eat, butter (or margarine for that matter) only becomes unhealthy when we eat too much of it.
