Paul Coles’ farm in Wellington, Somerset covers around 4,000 acres of land. It’s a huge space used to grow two of Britain’s smallest vegetables, peas and beans.
Paul’s parents started the business almost 40 years ago and KS Coles has been supplying Morrisons with top quality peas and beans for the last seven. "Morrisons are superb to work with," Paul enthuses. "Their buyers visit us regularly. In peak season, I speak to them five or six times a day to ensure that everything is to their satisfaction."
When they’re ready KS Cole’s peas and beans are picked by hand, sealed in aptly named ‘pillow’ packs and taken by refrigerated lorries to Morrisons’ distribution centres. "The process happens incredibly quickly," explains Paul. "Our British peas and beans normally arrive in store within 24 hours of being harvested. You can tell they’re grown in the UK by the superior taste and texture."
