We take strawberries seriously at Morrisons. Getting top quality fruit fresh from the field, into our stores and onto your table is a top priority. To achieve this Morrisons' buyers work closely with trusted, expert suppliers like Stewarts of Tayside.
Established in 1975 Stewarts is still owned and managed by the Stewart family on the banks of the River Tay between Perth and Dundee. One of the largest independent soft fruit growers in the UK, their strawberries reach our Scottish stores within 24 hours of picking.
The Stewarts’ fruit has earned a reputation for outstanding quality and flavour thanks to the efforts of head grower William Stewart. He utilises techniques that keep the strawberry plants dry and at a more even temperature. This hugely improves plant health and flavour, and reduces the amount of fertiliser and pesticides needed.
Mary Stewart works closely with our buyers to ensure these standards are maintained. She says: “We judge our fruit on flavour, quality, sugar levels and appearance. Morrisons’ quality standards are very high and so are ours, which is why we work so very well together.”
As the saying goes, 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating', so why not try our our strawberries by creating the dishes below. There are even more strawberry recipes to try here.
