Asmall House Farm, Lancashire

Asmall House Farm, Lancashire

John Molyneux has been supplying Morrisons with delicious Brussels sprouts from his family run farm in Lancashire since 1983. During the colder months, demand for Brussels is much higher thanks to the nation’s love of traditional Sunday roasts. So John has his work cut out making sure he can supply fresh, quality sprouts all the way from early August through to the beginning of March. ‘It’s hard work,’ admits John, ‘it has it’s ups and downs, but there’s nothing quite like being out in the fresh air, walking through the fields and looking over your crops.’

“We have a good, close working relationship with Morrisons and talk practicalities on a daily basis – what we require and what they require too. This helps us provide them with the perfect product.”

A sprouting success

To call Asmall House Farm a family run farm is an understatement. The Molyneux family started it nearly 160 years ago in Ormskirk, Lancashire, and it’s still run today by John with his brother and nephew, as well as Christopher, his son. ‘I’ve been farming all my life,’ says John, ‘and we’ve been growing Brussels sprouts here since I was born. In fact, the family has been growing them for around 100 years.’ It’s this kind of experience and passion that means the Molyneux family can provide delicious, crunchy sprouts for Morrisons customers to enjoy and will do for years to come.

Why not try…

John loves his sprouts crunchy with a bit of butter, pepper and even a drop of vinegar. Why not give it a go yourself? Alternatively, you can pop down to your local Morrisons and pick up some fantastic, fresh sprouts to enjoy in our Sprout ‘n’ squeak recipe – a tasty twist on a British classic.
