In 2011 Save the Children was chosen as our Raise a Smile charity partner as voted by our colleagues across the business. We are delighted to announce that our partnership with Save the Children has now been extended until March 2013. Save the Children works in more than 120 countries, including the UK. They save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.
Morrisons are specifically funding Save the Children’s Families and Schools Together (FAST) scheme which is an award-winning, U.N endorsed programme. Together Morrisons and Save the Children are giving UK children a better chance in life.
What will we be raising funds for?
By supporting the partnership, Morrisons colleagues are helping Save the Children deliver its innovative FAST project to children in communities across the UK. This partnership is having a massive impact on the lives of some of UK’s most disadvantaged children. In 2011 Morrisons raised enough money to establish twenty four FAST programmes. FAST is designed to enable parents to better support their children’s education, take a more active role in their child’s school and play a greater role in their local community. It strengthens and builds positive relationships between schools, families and local communities and improves early learning and helps children aged three to five years get a better start in life.
How does FAST work?
Each FAST programme brings together parents and children for eight FAST sessions. The families meet weekly with the FAST team and participate in activities proven to improve children’s wellbeing and academic performance, both in the short and long term. The activities also help strengthen parental, family and community relationships.
How can you get involved?
At the launch of the partnership we set ourselves an ambitious target to raise over £1 million and we were delighted when, thanks to the support and dedication of our colleagues, we raised an incredible £1.6 million for Save the Children in 2011. We hope that we can make our 2012 activity even more rewarding than last year and raise even more money for the children, families and communities who will benefit from the support we give.
There are a number of ways that you can get involved whether you want to join a sponsored sporting event, take part in a challenge of a life time or hold a tea party, we have a variety of options for you. Raising money for Save the Children is a fantastic way to work with your colleagues, friends and family. Look out for more information throughout the year.
