Manager
Jeff Penman began his career with the company over 25 years ago, working as a general assistant. Jeff has worked in a variety of management roles throughout the last few years, including store general manager at the former Morrisons Giffnock store.
Colleagues
Our Giffnock store employs 298 colleagues, 37% of whom were previously unemployed. Specialist staff include bakers who are craft skilled so that they can bake over 80 different types of bread from scratch, butchers trained in traditional craft skills to offer the freshest meat and prepare over 150 cuts, and fishmongers equipped with the skills to prepare over 110 different cuts of fish.
Site
Morrisons new 61,000 sq ft store is built on a seven-acre site, which was formally subject to extensive quarrying in the 1800s. Stone generated from the quarry forms part of the city centre architecture. In more recent times the site occupied a large transport depot.
To enhance the local environment, the area around the store and adjacent car park has been extensively landscaped, including the planting of trees and flora.
Building
Morrisons considers the environmental aspects of all of our new build stores. Our own experienced management teams influence all new developments. Each store is designed individually, creating buildings with style and character that are sympathetic to their locations and environment.
Many of our store plans include facilities for the benefits of the local community and we are also renowned for commissioning public works of art that reflect local heritage.
Local suppliers
Bell Bakers Ltd
Bell Bakers was founded in 1931 when a young Donald Bell started a business baking scones in his mother’s washhouse. Today Bells continue to produce a range of pastry, cakes and savoury products at their manufacturing sites just a stone’s throw from where it all began.
Famous for their unique brand of Puff Pastry and the hugely popular Steak Pie, Bells are now Scotland’s leading pie manufacturer, boasting more than 30% of the market share in Scotland.
James Stuart, Director of Sales and Marketing, says “Bells are extremely proud to be one of Morrisons’ leading Scottish suppliers. Sales are booming, up over 20% on last year and we even manage to export our famous scotch pies to Morrisons stores in England, to the great delight of all “Scottish Missionaries” living south of the border!”
