Manager
Paul’s career with Morrisons originated in Bradford 15 years ago, when he worked the night shift. He was promoted to night shift manager and has since taken on a variety of managerial roles, including deputy general manager at the Morrisons flagship store in Bradford. His most recent position has been store general manager at Morrisons Starbeck, which he held for four and a half years.
Site
Morrisons new 77,000 sq ft store on Foss Islands Road is built on a 6 acre site that was previously York City Council’s household refuge collection site prior to them relocating to a new facility nearby.
On site there is a 55 metre high grade two listed chimney which dates back to the early 1890s and formed part of the incinerator complex used to dispose of the city’s refuge. The chimney known as the ‘destructor’ is roughly the height of York Minster.
To enhance the local environment, the area around the store and adjacent car park has been extensively landscaped, including the planting of trees and flora.
Building
Morrisons considers the environmental aspects of all of our new build stores. Our own experienced management teams influence all new developments. Each store is designed individually, creating buildings with style and character that are sympathetic to their locations and environment.
Many of our store plans include facilities for the benefits of the local community and we are also renowned for commissioning public works of art which reflect local heritage.
Both hard and soft landscaping are used to enhance the local environment and we frequently carry out improvement to highways and pathways to provide private and public transport links as well as pedestrian access.
